Winery tours, wine tasting, gift shops, a gallery with local art and a year-round calendar of events make Silver Coast Winery a fun destination on the Carolina coast.

Every September, women dress up like Lucy Ricardo and head out to Silver Coast Winery for the Purple Feet Festival.

One of the many events held each year at this coastal North Carolina winery, the festival celebrates the I Love Lucy episode where Lucy dressed like an Italian peasant and stomped grapes with her bare feet. Live music, food, winery tours, grape stomping and continuous showings of the old TV show culminate in the annual crowning of a new Lucy look-alike, and make for a full day of family fun.

NC Wine Destination

Silver Coast Winery is the brainchild of Maryann and John Azzato, two wine lovers who have tapped into the public’s growing thirst for wine related attractions. Since 2002, they have worked to create a major tourist and wine destination just minutes from the beaches and attractions of North Carolina’s southern coast.

Located between Wilmington, North Carolina and Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, just off U S Highway 17, South, Silver Coast Winery is nestled in the heart of former tobacco country on 40 acres of land at the end of a dirt road. Visitors to the winery are invited to bring a picnic and enjoy the outdoor picnic tables and quiet rural setting.

The casual, country style winery houses production facilities, a gift shop offering wines and wine related items, two wine tasting rooms and a gallery displaying the works of local artists. The Barrel Room, with a huge waterfall and rockery at one end to help keep the room cool, serves as a wine storage facility and events venue for weddings and other private gatherings.

Twenty-minute winery tours include the vineyard, where visitors learn about grape growing and harvesting, the production room with its huge stainless steel fermenting tanks and the Barrel Room. Tours end naturally at the wine tasting bar.

Award Winning Wines

Silver Coast Winery began producing award winning wines almost immediately winning medals in regional, national and international competitions. They offer 15 different European style and Muscadine wines including Chardonnay, Merlot and Rose and Touriga, a wine from a Portuguese grape, and Viognier. Altogether, their wines have earned over 150 medals.

If the wine is the art inside the bottle, then the wine labels are the art on the outside of the bottle. Each new varietal gets its own label designed by a local artist, reflecting the character of the wine and the area. For instance, the Touriga label (Cape Fear Blood Wine) depicts a pirate guarding his treasure.

Silver Coast Winery Events

Festivals, seminars, dances and other events are a mainstay at Silver Coast Winery. Although many events change from year to year, these remain constant.

  • Wacky Wednesday Dance Parties – April through November
  • Wine Tasting Seminar – Every Tuesday and Wednesday
  • Purple Feet Festival – September
  • Oktoberfest – October
  • Festa Italia – November
  • Silver Coast Winery Christmas – December
