Raleigh Convention Center to Host Cultural EventExperience Different Cultures at Raleigh’s International Festival
Looking for a weekend destination that educates and delights? The 24th International Festival of Raleigh is taking place at the Raleigh Convention Center this October.
Advances of new-age technologies caused a tidal wave of new business procedures that eroded the boundaries citizens of all continents faced only years ago. This erosion paved the roads in order for international business to flourish. This festival celebrates the cultures of more than 40 ethnic groups and invites the public to learn about their neighbors. The Sherman Brothers got it right when they penned, “There’s so much that we share that it’s time we’re aware.” Appreciate Unique, International EthnicitiesFrom the Great Barrier Reef in Australia’s Coral Sea to the Kalahari Desert in southern Africa, Earth’s vast landscape showcases a variety of exotic ethnicities. There are so many, that in-depth teaching about each one separately in school is close to impossible. This leaves the majority of youth naïve to unique cultures. Put on by International Focus, Inc., Raleigh’s International Festival is designed to teach people of all ages about the differences between cultures. These are essential lessons to prepare today for tomorrow’s global business world where appreciation of others, and knowledge of appropriate behaviors are key. At noon on Friday, October 2, the event begins. Throughout the three-days, guests are invited to set eyes on the main stage where there will be music and dance routines by performers from countries all over the world. Rhythmic drums, in-sync clogging and exquisite costumes help illustrate the landscapes of worlds far from the United States. Throughout the Raleigh Convention Center, cultural exhibits highlight additional interesting differences. The mixture of informative displays with entertainment is delivered to teach and to excite viewers to practice future acceptance toward all individuals that have different beliefs. Taste Cuisines and View Artwork Created from Around the GlobeOne common task most cultures take pride in is meal preparation, hence the wide array of traditional foods found around the world. From Swedish meatballs and jerk chicken to Irish bangers and beef teriyaki, there are a variety of delicious flavors out there; delicacies dined on that are unique as the individuals dining. Inside the event’s Sidewalk Cafes, hungry passersby are invited to enjoy foreign fare. For entertainment while eating, a Biergarten constructed for the event, equipped with a dance floor, houses international bands for live music. Arts and crafts are important tools when teaching culture. Inside the International Festival pieces of both historic and contemporary pieces of art are displayed for public viewing. There is also a World Bazaar, where shoppers can select from a wide selection of unique items. Designed with children in mind, there is Sophie’s Corner for games, face painting and other activities. The hours of this event vary per day. After opening at noon on Friday, doors close at 10pm on Friday. On October 3 the doors re-open at 10am and close at 10pm, and Sunday the fourth, the hours are from noon to 6pm. Tickets for all ages are under $10. Visit the International Festival website for further details.
